I'm knackered!
This week has been upskilling week for the FTA trainers. Key to the week has been the PTLLS qualification.
What seems like a lifetime ago I completed the City and Guilds 7307 with one of the better teachers I have come across - Brian - at Ashby Link. I thoroughly enqjoyed the challenge and what I learned not only completed my existing teaching knowledge, but gave me a wealth of ideas and tools to try out on other unsuspecting students!
Training in the Logistics arena is a very different kettle of fish to the education arena. To begin with background knoweldge is much more critical than in many other areas I have taught. I started off with FTA some years ago now with only my own horse box (an ancient ex army wagon stuck together with sellotape and Araldite - I kid you not!) and a very old pre ADR qualification from a mis-spent youth with Grimsby ITEC to arm myself with!
Now - I can say I am pretty up with what hauliers need and want - maybe not the specilaist areas but I can talk yard with most people (although there are sceptics out there :-) ).
So what is the point of todays blog? Well I suppose just to get off my chest the fact that battling the logistics industry as a whole both inside and out, in terms of turning their thoughts and perceptions around on the benefits to their business (or indeed their training) of quality learning is a very, very long struggle.
FTA wants to be the best (it rates quite high on that agenda already) and I am doing my best to make headway on that at least in the training arena - but my word it is not an easy remit!
Long live PTLLS - that's what I say - and the sooner DSA bring this lauded qualification in as a minimum standard for adult education in Logistics - the better! At least FTA will be there and ready!
See you later!
